Continuing their effort to become the industry leader in compression technology, Aladdin Systems today announced the release of Aladdin Expander for Linux. Expander allows users to decompress Zipped and Stuffed files. According to Aladdin:

Aladdin Systems, Inc., developer of the StuffIt(tm) compression standard, today commenced a public beta of its freeware Aladdin Expander(tm) for Corel(r) Linux(r) and Red Hat Linux v6. Expander for the Linux OS gives users an easy way to expand compressed and encoded files downloaded from the Internet or received as e-mail attachments.

'Expander is used by millions of Windows and Macintosh users everyday, and Aladdin is excited to bring the software to the Linux platform,' said Marty McGillivray, director of product management. 'Aladdin is asking the Linux community to assist with beta testing these two versions of Expander to help ensure a solid release and to receive feedback about the software.'

Expander for Linux is a command line utility that decompresses and decodes the following compression and encoding formats from the Unix, Windows and Macintosh platforms: StuffIt (.sit), ZIP (.zip), ARC (.arc), gzip (.gz), Unix Compress (.Z), UUencode (.uu), BinHex (.hqx), Arj (.arj), MacBinary (.bin), and MIME (.mime, .mme).
